Doghouse

I'll preface this blog using a scene from the movie The Godfather.  In the scene Jack Woltz throws back his sheet to find a horse head in his bed...

Annabelle has been in our family for almost 6 years.  She is highly energetic, loves to play with her stuffed and unstuffed bunny and squirrel,  loves attention and being outside.  Tonight was no different than usual in the sense that her and Zoet would want to go out and as soon as they went out they wanted to come back inside.  This went on for a little while until I decided to prop the door open while we were watching our favorite TV shows which are on Tuesday night so they could come and go as they please.

After the shows were over it was time to get ready for bed.  I took Kennick to go to the bathroom and Karalee went to the kitchen.  We ran fast, not even turning on lights, and got Kennick situated on the potty.  I was heading off back to the kitchen to get my phone when I noticed something on the floor in the middle of the bedroom.  At first I thought it was one of Annabelle's stuffed bunnies and didn't think much about it but after a further analysis I found it was...YEP... HALF of a DEAD rabbit!!   Have you ever experienced looking at something for a couple minutes and know what it is, but not realizing what you are actually looking at, and finally it hits you and a whole cascade of emotions go through your mind??  For example: you see a stick in the yard and you go to pick up the stick and as you are picking it up you find out it is actually a snake....BIG difference.  Luckily I didn't scream like a little girl.

After the initial shock I probably did the worst thing possible and told Karalee...

I remember being in elementary school and reading a joke from an old candy wrapper that said "What's worse than biting into an apple and finding a worm?"  The answer was "finding half a worm".  That was now the situation that I was in with the rabbit.  There is nothing quite like going on a rabbit "treasure hunt" in your bedroom.

After scouring the house and cleaning the floors we were able to get everything back in order.  There will be new security measures at the back door from now on by a highly trained TSA (True Stuffed Animal) officer.  Quite the interesting evening and luckily I didn't have to sleep in the doghouse...

Annabelle and Kennick are best buds.

Jackson's Orchard

It's hard to believe that it is the time of year again where we thinking about getting the long sleeve shirts out as the air start to cool off, the days get shorter and for some of you Christmas shopping as already started.  It is this time of year that brings college football, hunting seasons, pumpkins and orchards.  Since I have been in Kentucky we have always taken a fall trip to Jackson's Orchard in Bowling Green.  Karalee, Kennick and I packed in the car to have a play date with Kasey, Cash and Baylen this past Thursday.  It was a perfect day to be out and about.  Blue skies and mid 80's.  Kennick and Cash are bestest buddies in the whole world so we always try to find an excuse to get them together.

Jackson's Orchard is notorious for almost all things apples.  By the time we left we had fried apple pies and apple cider but didn't get to eat to much because the boys were having too much fun running around.

The boys playing with the animals.  The donkey would make his presence known every once in a while...

Kennick petting a goat.

Kennick getting taller and taller every year.

Kennick learning where apples come from.

1st weekend of September

I'm a little behind and hope to catch up soon...

Every day you can get out of bed is a great day!!  With that being said, there are certain days and seasons that getting out of bed is a lot easier.  You know what I am talking about:  Christmas, birthdays, hunting seasons, the first bacon and tomato sandwich, going to Disney, college football, etc.  The big and small things that makes you life a little more enjoyable.

Luckily for me a majority of my favorite things all fall on the same weekend.  Yes, the first weekend of September is my birthday, opening day dove season and opening weekend of college football.  I was also lucky enough to have my parents come into town (will post on their trip next).

1st bacon and tomato of the year :)

Birthday:

My birthday was on a Friday this year and that is usually our busiest day at the office.  It was a great birthday this year and everyone at the office was great!  They brought donuts, snacks, cake, punch and a bunch of other favorites!!  Couldn't have asked for a better day!

Dove Season:

Dove season has always seemed very ironic to me.  A couple dozen guys get together at the early hours of the morning and fellowship in preparation to shoot the international bird of peace.  This year a good friend of mine invited me to a big dove hunt so me and my brother-in-law went.  We had a blast!

An absolutely beautiful morning!  The sun raising in the distance.

Where did Heath go??  Not too bad for a couple hours of hunting.

Heath did very well and got his limit.  I shot quite a few but after 50 shots the birds would laugh as they flew by and I filled the sky with lead.  After a couple boxes of shells your arm gets very sore as well.

College Football:

Unfortunately, being a Big 10 fan in SEC country does not always mean getting to watch your favorite team play.  This year the Hawks hosted Tennessee Tech for the season opener and the Hawks won 34-7.  Not a bad start.  Can't wait for the road trip to Iowa City!!

Bi-planes, Burgers and Baseball

There are some guys who have good wives and there are some who have great wives.  There are even fewer though, who are truly blessed and have a one in a lifetime spouse.  This is the gategory that my wife, Karalee, falls into.  I don't just say that because of the day we have had today but because of all the wonderful things she does and because of the wonderful person she is.  Today is a great example...

Today we took a road trip to Louisville to celebrate my upcoming birthday.  We left about 11:30 and our first stop was to see Kathy Ruder who does bio-energetic work.  Kathy has been a tremendous help for the Doggett's and we are getting on board with her work.  She was able to identify my nutritional defiencies and am ready to get started on the program!

The next stop was Bowman Field for a flight in a 1993 Waco YMF bi-plane!  What a blast...aside the fact it was almost 100 degrees today...  We got to fly over the Louisville Airport, Churchhill Down and the Ohio River.

Mid flight.  Karalee is still trying to get the knots out of her hair.

After our flight we were both getting very hungry.  We jumped back in the car and headed over to one of Louisville's classic resturants... Lynn's Paradise Cafe.  This resturant has been on the Food Network many times for its wonderful foods.  We both ordered hamburgers but not just any hamburgers.  Karalee's had burbon glazed bacon on it, need I say more??  Mine had 1/2 pound burger, hashbrowns, two medium eggs, bacon, lettuce and tomatoe.  Top that off with a side of onion rings and it made for a feast.  Though, it did induce a food coma on the way home.

As if we hadn't eaten enough we headed over to a little place called "Coco's Chocolate Cafe" and got some gourmet chocolates.  I do not have a picture of them but here is the website.

By this time of the day it was time to start heading back.  Kennick had been with Nanni and Granddad and they headed to one of the last Hot Rod Baseball games of the year. We headed to Bowling Green and caught a portion of the game before we had to head home so that Kennick could go to bed.
